Well, I know i did kinda put a little afterward update on here...but i wrote a letter and am posting it here...
I thought maybe I should update since I am indeed home from LA! I had a great time and am definitely planning to go again! It was a LOT of hard work and we had a FULL schedule but it was definitely well worth it!
Darlene and I flew out Friday and were in Los Angeles by noon their time…I was glad I got there early so I had a few hours just to relax and get rested up for the next 10 days…We were picked up at the airport and from there went to eat at Denny’s w/ a group of others who were also part of the team. From there we went back to the motel and I showered, washed my hair, and just plain freshened up…then went to sleep for a while! Sometime later the called and said they needed help to stuff literature…we were putting tracts in w/ the CD’s that we passed out…
Saturday morning we had orientation. After lunch then we hit the street for the first time. The first place we went to was Broadway (I spent a lot of time here). Then between then and Sunday night we went to Broadway again and Santa Monica. Monday morning we hit it full blast…we had divided into 3 groups and Starting Monday we went 3 different directions most of the time…Sometimes we had 2 groups together…especially if we were on the streets. Some of the groups went to a few missions…I only ever got to 1 mission. About 3 times! At the mission I went to we sorted clothing, made bulletin boards…and I’m not sure what all…And I honestly can’t tell you what the rest did at the other missions. My group spent most of our time on the streets singing and passing out tracts. We would sometimes be out there for 6 hours at a time…Wednesday we all went to Mexico for the day. We sang there all Espanol! WE only sang about 3 hours that day though. I still have Spanish songs running thru my head!
Friday morning people started leaving….by Saturday afternoon we were down to about half power…But we still hit it strong. Part way thru the week about 6 people had to go home to Oregon for a funeral but they came back and met us for a service on Saturday afternoon. Saturday was more laid back and then Sunday we hit it hard again for one more shot. Sunday afternoon was spent on Broadway and evening on Santa Monica.
By Monday morning most everybody was gone. Darlene and I didn’t fly till 11:30 pm…and here 2 of the directors didn’t fly out till late either. There was a group of us went to Denny’s for Breakfast and then the directors took Darlene and I and 4 other girls material shopping! they warned us that that was not going to be a common occurrence! Ha! ;-) That afternoon we ended up going to a Mexican couples place and they served us supper and then took us to see their church…It was an interesting experience. After that we went to the airport. Mom and Dad came to Augusta, GA to pick us up the next morning around noon…By that evening I was ready to hit my bed! Ha!
All in all it was a very good experience and I can’t do justice to it in such a small space! It was definitely a life-changing experience and I enjoyed it to the max. I would encourage anyone to go! Well, I should run…Love Geneva
