fall....poison ivy....strawberries...and flowerbeds

Saturday when I was trying to keep my mind on many things other then the fact that my face and hands were very swollen with poison ivy, I wondered around my yard doing many odd jobs and taking pictures. Aren't those red and yellows lovely? and the sky was amazing that day! Anyway, the trees had turned in the last 3 days before that...they are even brighter now! The deck is new since Ryan was here...I love it. One day i'm going to take the time and have a deck party. Dad strung that log out over the yard so the guy that hunts in the pine adjacent to my yard wouldn't drive thru there. This isn't the only access point and he has to go thru our land...and so yeah...It could be a lil freaky just to have anybody driving up thru there...It looks kinda cool tho', I think!
Last week i suffered the worst case of poison ivy in world history! Tuesday night when i came home from the barn i decided there was nothing going that evening so i was going to tackle that mound of roses that were all tangled together and had more poison then roses. they poison and dew berry vines had to go. So I did it...with a Hoe, kids utility rake, and my hands....Dumb, yes, I know this! But it had to be dun and I didn't know of any other way to do it except for Round up and I didn't wanna kill the roses! So like a mad woman I went after it! And I got it accomplished too! It was dark when i got dun but it was dun!

Yes, I knew I was in contact with Poison Ivy and yes, I went straight in and took a hot shower w/ lots of soap...i soaped myself down 4 times in hope that it wouldn't cause any problems. (i've heard since that you shouldn't take a HOT shower...)

Wednesday and Thursday the rashes started...first on the back of my hands and my face and neck, gradually spreading pretty much anywhere that would have been exposed and not clothed. By Friday morning when i got up to milk @ 4 am my one eye was starting to swell....and Saturday the longer the day progressed the closer my eyes were to closed! I was glad i Had decided NOT to go to the Hartwell meetings. And it was also a good thing Andrea didn't either and that she came and stayed @ my house. I might have gone crazy otherwise! I even asked if i could switch Saturday afternoon milking for another day. Which means i get to milk this afternoon instead.

Sunday I didn't go to church but i did end up going to Gordan's for lunch but w/ a very puffy face! There were a lot of other displaced characters there because of the Hartwell meetings but they decided i was the most displaced! :-)

A friend told me about a pill that's made from Poison Ivy plant that helped her brother so mom went the the Drug Store and got me some of that after the Pharmisist ordered it in the next day so Friday afternoon i started on that...by Saturday the rash on my forehead had disappeared and slowly but surely it has been drying up...I went to chorus Monday night and told everybody i looked really good and i think some of them wanted to LOL! literally! I was still kinda bad then...but trust me, i looked good! :-) I even had/have it on the palms of my hands! yes, painful!

Saturday morning i decided i couldn't sit in the house all day cause i'd just scratch if i did...so i decided to built flowerbeds. I started in the back and dug up the ground and added peat moss of the one and found bricks to temporarily outline it. Then I went around to the front and replanted grass elsewhere to make another one by the porch where it's missing an azalea. I put pine straw from the lane over it to prettify it up as the soil would look sandy and yuck once it dries. I also checked on my strawberry plants to make sure they were still growing...i think i may have a lot of berries this spring! if i don't kill them first! :-)

Sunday while i stayed home from church i discovered a lil puppy in my yard. After lunch i went and captured one of them! i don't have any pictures just yet but he is the cutest thing ever! Yesterday i found another one that i might take up for Ryan sometime. I don't even think it's pretty my mom said she thought it was....hopefully they don't chew thru their cotton ropes i tied them up with! :-) Mom bought food for them @ Walmart yesterday and since they are eating that they are quite energetic lil bundles!

So yeah this is my life this week...it's definitely better now then it was last week!

Glad you've improved. Looks like you've had fun. My flower beds need a face lift.... One of these days it will happen.

Neva, if you eat a handful of nuts, especially peanuts or cashews (because they are high in oil)off and on throughout the day, it REALLY helps poison rashes. And it helps fast. If you're over it by now you know for next time. :)Thankfully I don't tend to get it very bad but some of my siblings do.
Thanks Kayla! that would be a delicious cure! :-) i'll have to try to remember that! I am NOT planning to dig in any more as I can help it! :-)

ponderings...

Some times i wonder....why do i even blog? do ppl even read it? but then i wonder am i selfishly wanting ppl to notice? do they have to comment? I rarely comment on other's posts...so why should they comment on mine? I do try to comment all the time! but for some reason since my computer is so slow....the internet anyway...it tells me i'm not allowed to....so even if you don't see a comment from me know that i wanted to! and maybe that's everybody elses problem! the same one i have! their internet's being snotty! ha! ;) I love to read all the blogs i do read and wish like crazy that i could comment! so here a some comments i've thought about recently.... i Think it's time...

To go on a trip! I was thinking that i needed to get out my suitcase to pack to go on the camping trip and all of a sudden realized how odd it felt to be getting it out....and thinking back to camping trips before how it didn't feel so odd to get packed up....well, i suppose that means i've been working too much and not going places anymore! ha ha! This summer i may get a few excursions in here and there...but not sure yet if i will or not.....i am going to LA for 10 days, but there are a few other places to go too..... i mean i need to put my suitcases to use right?! :-) it's definitely time! ha ha! in other news...this weekend is the end of school....graduation....etc!
